This high-quality bonsai soil is made by expanding and vitrifying selected shale at over 2000°F in a rotary kiln, resulting in a sterile, environmentally inert, and non-toxic ceramic granule. It features a neutral pH, excellent water absorption, and long-term stability, meaning it won’t degrade like other soil amendments—no need for yearly reapplication.

A healthy bonsai soil mix should be approximately 25% water, 25% air, and 50% solid particles. However, compacted soils lose essential air and water, making it harder for nutrients and beneficial microbes to thrive. Our bonsai soil prevents this by absorbing excess water during watering or rain and slowly releasing it as the soil dries, acting like a natural time-release system.
